Abstract
One hundred and six specimens of petrified wood were collected from the upper Paleocene Black Peaks Formation in western Tornillo Flat, Big Bend National Park, Texas. Specimens include conifers assigned to families Araucariaceae, Cupressaceae, Taxaceae, and sub-family Abietaceae of the Pinaceae; angiosperms of the families Euphorbiaceae, Flacourtiaceae, Rubiaceae, Verbenaceae, Burseraceae, Capparidaceae, Bombacaceae, Elaeocarpaceae, Platanaceae, and Myristicaceae.
Most of the comparative extant woods now grow in Mexico and Central America, two in Zaire and one each in Europe and Asia.
