Abstract: Quick and Easy Creation of High-Quality Maps, Cross Sections, Schematics and Montages on a Computer
Abstract
A color Macintosh computer with a scanner can be used to make maps, cross sections, statigraphic columns and colored seismic lines very quickly. Any of these graphic images can be easily combined into a single display. Computerized images can be quickly edited or updated to save time. Maps and well logs can be imported from a VAX or mainframe computer or they can be scanned into the computer from paper copies. Furthermore, almost any IBM PC file can be imported into the Macintosh to be used as needed. The files can be printed on black and white or color printers, and can even be printed on large Versatec plotters.
This system is much more flexible, powerful and easy to use than many very expensive computer and software systems. Training time for people who are familiar with PCs is typically one-half to one day, and training time for the completely inexperienced is usually two days or less. The cost of all the hardware, including a color printer and a scanner, and software needed is about $5800 for a low-end system to about $15,000 for a high-end system.
