Abstract
In Search of the Holy Grail: Predicting Producing Rates in the C. S. Dean “A” Unit, Slaughter Field, Cochran County, Texas
Abstract
It has long been a goal of every log analyst to be able to accurately predict the producing rates of various fluids from wells using log analysis. Production rate is a function of pressure, permeability, and other factors that cannot be directly measured with logs. Oil cut is a function of relative permeability and water saturation. Various correlations have been used to try to predict productivity and the oil cut of wells with limited success. In the San Andres of the Slaughter Field near Levelland, Texas, one such apparent correlation has been identified. It was found that the total porosity feet value of the reservoir in communication with the perforated interval is indicative of total fluid production. It was also found that oil cut could be related to average bulk volume water.
