Abstract
A Technique for Identifying Hydrocarbons Using “Old Electric Logs” and Contemporary Sonic Logs
Abstract
An interpretation technique combining “old electric logs” with modern day sonic logs is being used to evaluate well logs for the presence of hydrocarbons. The method consists of crossplotting the sonic travel time and the conductivity measurements from induction electric logs. The zones that are hydrocarbon productive will exhibit a greater sonic travel time log trace than the conductivity values and log trace. The zones that are non-productive, or “wet”, exhibit a smaller sonic travel time value when compared to the conductivity measurements.
