Abstract: The Downhole Video Service: Current Open Hole Applications in the Permian Basin

Lee Sanders,1 Cary Joe Burkhart2

Abstract

The Downhole Video Service provides a real time and on-site image of wellbore conditions in both the open and cased hole environments. In open hole, the video camera captures images of hydrocarbon entry, the presence of natural fracture systems that intersect the borehole, borehole anomalies, and fracture planes generated by hydraulic stimulation activities. Because of these features, the Downhole Video Service can be used to maximize potential hydrocarbon reservoirs. Maximum hydrocarbon potential can be achieved by more precise location of perforations, and by the visualization of the effectiveness of reservoir stimulation techniques.
