Abstract
Burke Ranch Field, Natrona County, Wyoming
Abstract
The Burke Ranch Field is in the east central part of Natrona County, 24 miles north of Casper, Wyoming.
The Field is a stratigraphic trap, a stream channel, coincident with an anticlinal fold on the Powder River Basin side of the Casper Arch.
At Burke Ranch Field the Fall River ("Dakota") sandstone is the only commercial productive zone and it has a proven area of 1450 acres.
The Fall River sandstone has two different porosity zones, of which the upper zone ranges from 0-16 feet in thickness and the lower zone 0-19 feet in thickness.
These combined porosity zones have a 23,390 acre feet of productive reservoir, which is estimated to have a primary recovery of 2880 barrels per acre or a total of 4,210,200 barrels of primary crude. By secondary recovery means the ultimate accumulative figures may be near 7,200,000-9,356,000 barrels ultimate recovery or 6800 barrels per acre.
The Burke Ranch crude has a paraffin base, rated 35-36 degrees API gravity and is dark brownish green in color. As of May, 1958, the field has 16 producing wells. The north and south limits of the Field are by stratigraphic changes.
