Abstract
Wyoming Trona vs. Alternative Sodium Sources as Glass-Making Raw Materials
Abstract
The high cost of trona makes it imperative that the glass industry search for and utilize cheaper alternative Na sources. The possible and speculative substitutes include: 1) various feldspar deposits (igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic), including ordinary granitoids and anorthosites; 2) additional "Nephton-type" nepheline deposits; 3) paragonite schists: 4) deposits of magadiite; and 5) nahcolite-dawsonite deposits.
