Use of the Sodium Absorption Ratio to Evaluate Potential Environmental Impacts from the Discharge of Ground Water Generated While Producing Coal-Bed Methane

Scott L. Miller

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to present how the sodium adsorption ratio (SAR) can be used as a tool to evaluate potential environmental impacts from the discharge of ground water generated while producing coal-bed methane (CBM). The SAR will then be used to evaluate water-quality data from a property located in an area where CBM is actively being developed in the Powder River Basin of Wyoming.
