Abstract:
Reexamination of two samples from southwestern Puerto Rico previously assigned to the Globigerina ciperoensis ciperoensis Zone has identified Globigerinoides trilobus primordius (previously reported as Globigerina praebulloides occlusa). Faunal associations have an Oligocene aspect. Two interpretations for the associations are possible if the zones by Bolli are considered: (1) Globorotalia kugleri is not present for ecologic reasons, and both samples correspond to the G. kugleri Zone; or (2) Globigerinoides trilobus primordius appeared before Globorotalia kugleri and the samples must be assigned to the Globigerina ciperoensis ciperoensis Zone.
