Title: Developments in Four Corners-Intermountain Area in 1972

Author(s): N. D. Thomaidis (2)

Abstract:

Total drilling in the Four Corners-Intermountain area during 1972 was up from 1971. Exploratory and development drilling was up, and success rates were higher than in 1971. Significant discoveries were made in the Uinta basin of northeastern Utah and the San Juan basin of northwestern New Mexico.

Increased leasing and geophysical activity during 1972, together with the 1972 discoveries, should result in an increase in both exploratory and development drilling during 1973. Increases in the price of natural gas paid to producers will result in increased gas exploration and development throughout the area.
