Title: Drilling Mud Contamination of Samples in X-Ray Diffraction and Atomic Absorption Analyses: GEOLOGIC NOTES

Author(s): Henning Dypvik (2)

Abstract:

Drilling mud contamination in well cuttings may complicate determinations of minerals and elements commonly analyzed (Na, K, Ba, Cr, Pb, Sr, Co, Ag, Ni). In addition to caving and overrepresentation of the more consolidated fragments, drilling mud contamination may cause ambiguity in sedimentologic studies utilizing cuttings analyses.
