Figure 2. Synthetic structural model employed in this study. The model measures 1000 × 1600 × 600 m (3280 × 5249 × 1968 ft). (A) The fault surface is 1000 m (3280 ft) long and extends 500 m (1640 ft) vertically. Displacement ranges from 100 m (328 ft) at the center of the plane to 0 m at its edges. (B) Layer model. The fault is completely encased by the top and bottom layers of the model, which are flat. Intervening layers are offset by the fault. (C) Illustration of an xz section from the middle of the model.
