The overpressure required for crack initiation decreases sharply with ellipticity α > 0 → 10. (B) The overpressure required to create vertical microcracks in spherical kerogen specks (α = 1) depends strongly on the value of σh /σv . σh = horizontal stress; σv = vertical stress.
