Mississippian Stratigraphy of South-Eastern British Columbia

D. H. Oswald

ABSTRACT

The Mississippian strata of southeastern British Columbia and the adjacent parts of southwestern Alberta can be divided into the subdivisions established in the type areas to the north. The Banff Formation is further subdivided into a lower recessive unit and an upper cherty, resistant unit. The formations of the Rundle Group, established in the Mount Head area, can be recognized, but the identity of the individual members of the Mount Head Formation is progressively less distinct when followed to the west. The Etherington Formation in the west contains a lower carbonate unit which is not seen in the eastern part of the area. The Rocky Mountain Group is lithologically similar to that seen in the Banff area but is considerably thicker.
