Mississippian Structural Implications at the Shirk Field Complex, Young County, Texas

R.M. Knebel

Abstract

The significant Mississippian oil traps in the Shirk field complex are structural. These traps are probably basement fault related, and were created in pre-Middle Caddo time. The exploration significance of this lies in the likelihood that more Mississippian oil can be found by high-grading similar subsurface-seismic prospects through detailed isochron work in the Caddo-Mississippian interval.
