Abstract
The Monroe Uplift
Ollie H. Johnson, Jr.
ABSTRACT
The Monroe uplift has long been a recognized regional feature located in parts of Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi. It is a complexly truncated dome and if defined on the truncated limits of the Annona chalk, Gulf Cretaceous in age, the structure is approximately eighty miles in diameter.
As denoted by cross-section work there were four major periods of growth and unusual amounts of erosion.
Igneous activity in the area is confined to an irregular assortment of igneous rocks which may be interpreted to be dikes, sills and volcanic rocks. This activity occurred during Gulf Cretaceous and pre-Jurassic times and as far as can be determined did not materially affect the uplift.
