Abstract
Six Proposed Formations in the Undefined Portion of the Lower Cretaceous Section in South Florida
George O. Winston (1)
ABSTRACT
Subsurface data have been available for 20 years to provide names for regionally persistent units in the Lower Cretaceous in South Florida, but nomenclatural gaps still remain. Five units in this 6500 foot section have been named; the Fort Pierce, Punta Gorda, Sunniland, Lake Trafford and Dollar Bay Formations.
Because half of the section remains unnamed, six additional formations are proposed to help close this nomenclatural gap. They are: Corkscrew Swamp, Rookery Bay and Panther Camp Formations of Washita age; Gordon Pass and Marco Junction Formations of Fredericksburg age; and Rattlesnake Hammock Formation of Trinity age.
