Abstract
Mid Eocene Planktonic Correlations: Northern Italy-Jamaica, W. I.
Sherwood W. Wise, Jr. (1), Richard E. Constans (1)
ABSTRACT
Calcerous nannofossil assemblages from two stratigraphic sections at Rio Sambre, St. Mary, Jamaica (W.l.) are assigned to the Discoaster sublodoensis Zone. Collaborative study of planktonic foraminifers from the Jamaica sections and a similar stratigraphic interval in Northern Italy suggest that the Discoaster sublodoensis Zone is correlative to portions of the Globorotalia aragonensis and Globorotalia palmerae planktonic foraminiferal Zones (or their equivalents) instead of to the Hantkenina aragonesis Zone as has sometimes been suggested. One new calcareous nannofossil genus, Pseudotriquetrorhabdulus, is proposed.
