Abstract
Abstract: Applications of Design in the Energy Industry
Carol M. Lucas (1), Sandy Astrup (1)
ABSTRACT
The technical application of design principles can be applied to improve working conditions in the offshore industry. Following this planning would result in a decrease in costly downtime, an increase in personnel efficiency, improvement of safety features, and establishment of a balanced working environment.
Exterior as well as interior design changes are adapted according to the facility's function and location, and should be carefully examined each time the facility is deployed. For example, employees living and working in these confined spaces, have reported decreased concentration, impaired judgment, increased aggression, and feelings of anxiety that can be directly related to their working environment. Use of the principles of design can minimize these problems.
Our research indicated a great need for application of this technology to create a quality working habitat for the energy frontier.
