Abstract
Miocene Stratigraphy and Sand Distribution in East and West Cameron OCS Areas, Gulf of Mexico
Xiaotao Du, Joel S. Watkins
ABSTRACT
This study indicates that (1) prograding complexes comprise most of the lowstand systems tracts (LST); (2) sequences and systems tracts can be traced across the entire area with little change in thickness; (3) dramatic changes of lithofacies occur only when crossing large displacement faults; (4) shelf-slope breaks tend to coincide with growth faults; and (5) faults generate accommodation space for sands on down thrown sides. The study is an example for integrated sequence analysis in a tectonic setting with abundant growth faults and complex salt structures. This approach improves predictability of regional sand distribution in the area.
