Besitang River Sand as the First Turbidite Reservoir in Indonesia

Mulhadiono, R. P. Koesoemadinata, Rusnandar

Abstract

The Middle Baong Sandstone (MBS) Unit is known as a productive unit in the Aru area, North Sumatra. Geological studies of sedimentary structures, electric logs and thickness, indicate that the Besitang River sands of this unit are turbidites within marine shale sequences of the Baong Formation. Production characteristics and reservoir features are quite significant. Fluid properties and production performance encourage further potential in both structural and stratigraphic traps.
