Seismic Facies Study in the Sepasu Area of East Kalimantan

J. Vallet

Abstract

A detailed seismic survey shot over the SEPASU area of the continental margin of EAST KALIMANTAN shows several stratigraphic features. From these, a construction of the geological history of this area has been attempted. Three major sequences can be distinguished:

1. A phase of deltaic construction in Middle Miocene.

2. A transgression phase with extensive carbonate deposition during Early Upper Miocene time.

3. A tilting of the basin eastward and a regression with deltaic deposition during Upper Miocene to Pliocene time.

These sequences can be related to sedimentary units previously defined in the South MAHAKAM area.
