Geothermal Cementing: A State of the Art Approach

David Nelson

Abstract

In Indonesia today, there are many areas where Geothermal Energy can be of great benefit. These areas are located close to residential and industrial areas and can help to reduce the demand on hydrocarbon energy sources to generate power. Success of geothermal energy depends greatly on the basic cementing process utilized in the drilling and completing of the geothermal wells. There are many problems encountered such as: lost circulation control, removal of immobile muds, proper centralization of pipe, cement placement techniques, mud conditioning, mud fluid loss control, filtrate control, and the list goes on. This paper will highlight major problem areas and steps to control these problems by technology leaders in the geothermal industry.
