Geochemistry of the Minahasa Geothermal Prospect, North Sulawesi

Prijanto, A. Fauzi, L. I. Lubis, A. Suwana

Abstract

Recent chemical data show that chloride/boron ratios of the thermal waters fall into two groups, geographically separated, suggesting the existence of two geothermal systems in the studied area.

The highest underground temperature of about 322°C as indicated by gas (CO2) geothermometer appears to occur in Lahendong, in the central part of the Prospect area. Based on that, Lahendong is recommended as the first priority area to be exploratory drilled.

An overview of geochemistry of the Minahasa Prospect is described in this paper.
