Abstract
The paper discusses briefly some aspects of the role played in the design of floating production systems of theoretical and numerical analysis. Attention is focused by examples on the estimation of the response to waves of the surface vessels, such as tension leg platforms, semi-submersibles and single point moorings, and the riser system. Since computer programs are central to the analytical capability, the requirements for their validation are discussed.
