Geology of the Carpinteria-Rincon Creek Area Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties, California
Abstract
From an observation site on the south side of U.S. Highway 101 at its intersection with Casitas Pass Road east of Carpinteria, much of the geology of the Carpinteria and Rincon Creek areas is visible. This site is 0.7 miles northwest of Rincon Point at the mouth of Rincon Creek along the Ventura-Santa Barbara County line. The outcrop geology is as shown on the accompanying map. Detailed outcrop geology is shown on the geologic maps of the Carpinteria and White Ledge Peak quadrangles of the Dibblee Geological Foundation (Dibblee, 1986; 1987). The geology of the area from Carpinteria westard though Santa Barbara is described (Dibblee, 1966). The subsurface geology of the Carpinteria basin and vicinity is discussed in detail with cross-sections by Jackson and Yeats (1982).
