Abstract
A Band of Extraordinary Calcareous Concretions in the Upper Lias of Yorkshire, England
A. Hallam
ABSTRACT
A detailed description is given of a band of peculiar calcareous concretions in the Jet Rock of the Yorkshire coast. Two separate phases of segregation and interstitial crystallization of CaCO3 in bituminous shale have produced two distinct sets of calcite siltstone concretions. The earlier concretions are highly irregular in shape and are associated with small bodies of calcilutite, which exhibit a variety of structures including veining, colloform banding and microbreccias. A complex diagenetic history is deduced.
