Abstract
The Adaptation of a Colorimeter for Measuring Silt-sized Particles--a Rapid Photo-extinction (PE) Method
K. G. McKenzie
ABSTRACT
This paper presents a modification of Simmons' photo-extinction method for the measurement of silt-sized particles. A standard colorimeter may be adapted for this purpose and a rapid method of computing weight percentages from recorded light intensities is described.
Sodium hexametaphosphate is recommended as a dispersing agent, particularly for sediments containing abundant organic matter.
