Abstract
Weathering of Glacial Tills in Indiana: II. Heavy Minerals
N. Bhattacharya
ABSTRACT
Petrographic data from weathered profiles developed on Wisconsin, Illinoian, and Kansan tills in Indiana reveal that these profiles differ from each other in the relative stability of their heavy mineral assemblages. The weathering profiles developed on Wisconsin till are distinctly different from those on the Kansan and Illinoian with respect to heavy mineral alteration, but the differences are not very pronounced between the weathering profiles developed on the Illinoian and Kansan tills.
The heavy minerals are more altered in the older tills and the amount of altered products increases with greater duration of weathering.
