Abstract
The Dearth of Certain Sizes of Materials in Sediments
R. G. Wolff
ABSTRACT
Particle size distributions representing 930 samples from various depositional environments were studied with respect to a dearth of material within the size ranges of 4.00 to 0.0039 mm. The histogram representing a composite of all the analyses indicates an apparent dearth in the coarse silt range. This dearth is probably artificial, attributable to change of analyses technique, variability of extent of analyses, and to selection of environments sampled and the number of samples from each environment.
