Undulose Extinction in Fine-grained Rocks: NOTES

ABSTRACT

The undulose extinction commonly observed in fine-grained rocks is an optical interference produced by superposition of wedge-shaped grain fragments. The interference can be explained in terms of the effective birefringence of the grains.
