Abstract
Distinction Between Tills and Other Diamictons Based on Textural Characteristics
Paulo M. B. Landim, Lawrence A. Frakes
ABSTRACT
Statistical parameters of the granule-to-clay size-frequency distribution efficiently differentiate till from alluvial-fan deposits and from outwash deposits. Discriminant functions utilizing mean, standard deviation, skewness, and kurtosis also separate the three types of sediment. As a test of the method, samples of fossil mudflow were studied; they plot in the area of alluvial-fan deposits.
