Abstract
Deformation Structures in Siltstone Resulting from the Migration of an Upper Devonian Aeolian Dune
Brian G. Jones
ABSTRACT
Deformation structures showing evidence of flow movement are present within a 2 m thick laminated siltstone lens of Upper Devonian age which is overlain by a large-scale cross-stratified sandstone believed to be of aeolian origin. Lateral pressure, produced by overloading during the emplacement of the sandstone, probably caused the folding and deformation of the siltstones in a manner analogous to the origin of similar structures in modern deposits at Coorong Lagoon, South Australia.
