Geology of Hydrocarbon Accumulations in Pakistan

I. B. Kadri, M. Sajid Abid

Abstract

Since the first commercial discovery of petroleum in 1915, a number of hydrocarbon reservoirs have been discovered in Pakistan, ranging in age from Miocene to Cambrian. Though current oil and gas production is modest by International standards, recent discoveries of both oil and gas have highlighted the possibility of discovering additional reserves.

The paper discusses the exploration history, stratigraphic and structural setting of the hydrocarbon deposits in the Indus Basin of Pakistan. Exploration objectives with significant potential are also highlighted.
